OCHA
OCHA coordinates the global emergency response to save lives and protect people in humanitarian crises. It is the part of the United Nations Secretariat responsible for bringing together humanitarian actors to ensure a coherent response to emergencies. OCHA contributes to principled and effective humanitarian response through coordination, advocacy, policy, information management and humanitarian financing tools and services. OCHA helps set the agenda for humanitarian sector reform and effectiveness in response to a shifting global landscape and promotes increased capacities of national governments and local actors.
As one of CADRI’s Technical Partners, OCHA deploys specialized expertise to support CADRI work at global, regional and country level. OCHA, together with UNDP led the development of the disaster preparedness generic module.
OCHA deploys specialized expertise in response to country demand for CADRI Partnership services in the areas of disaster readiness and emergency response, more specifically in:
- Coordination of disaster and crisis response
- Information management
- Emergency response system strengthening
- Environmental emergencies through the OCHA-UN Environment Joint Environment Unit (JEU)
